Starr Muranko is a professional contemporary and traditional dancer as well as a choreographer who has trained and performed throughout the Lower Mainland, San Francisco and as far away as the Andes of Peru.  Her choreographic work has been shown at the Vancouver International Dance Festival, LIFT Community Dance Series and the Talking Stick Festival and she is currently and Artist-in-Residence at the Scotia Dance Centre for their 2011-2012 season.

She is the Artistic Associate for Raven Spirit Dance and recently performed in Michelle Olson's newest creation, Gathering Light, at the Scotia Dance Centre (Vancouver) and in Toronto at the Weeseegachek Begins to Dance Festival produced by Native Earth Performing Arts as well as the Dancing on the Edge Festival (Vancouver) in July 2010 and Dance AllSorts/New Works in April 2011.  Starr is a proud member of the Dancers of Damelahamid (Gitksan) dance collective whom she has toured internationally with to New Zealand and Peru (World Indigenous Peoples Conference in Education) as well as and performed with group at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and annually as part of the Coastal First Nations Dance Festival.

She has been invited to participate in the International Indigenous Choreographer’s Summit at the Banff Centre and has sat on numerous art panels and advisory committees.  She has trained and performed internationally at the School for Performing Arts in Ghana, West Africa and holds a BFA in Dance from SFU's School for Contemporary Arts.  Starr is committed to supporting Indigenous people and the living expression of their cultures through dance, music and story-telling and honours her mixed heritage of Metis, Cree and German in all of her work.
