Starr Muranko is a professional dancer and choreographer and the current Artistic Associate with Raven Spirit Dance in Vancouver. Her choreographic work has been presented at the Talking Stick Festival, Dancing on the Edge Festival, The Dance Centre, the Vancouver International Dance Festival (SFU grad show) and the LIFT Community Dance Series. She is a proud member of the Dancers of Damelahamid (Gitksan) and has toured regionally and internationally with this company to New Zealand and Peru as well as participated in several of the 2010 Winter Olympic performances. She has also performed and toured with Raven Spirit Dance (Gathering Light), Compaigni V’ni Dansi, the Louis Riel Metis Dancers, Still, In Motion and has also worked with Alvin Tolentino (CO.Erasga) as part of Matriarchs of the Earth (BigSky Multi-Media Storytelling) project in Vancouver and Calgary.

She has trained and performed internationally at the School for Performing Arts in Ghana, West Africa, the American Conservatory of Theatre in San Francisco, holds a BFA in Dance/Cultural Studies from SFU’s School for Contemporary Arts and has presented her research at the World Indigenous People’s Conference in Education (WIPCE) in Cusco, Peru and the URI Global Assembly in West Bengal, India. She honours her mixed Ancestry of Cree, German and French in all of her work and is grateful for the generous support of the Canada Council, The Dance Centre’s emerging artist-in-residency program and Raven Spirit Dance in the creation of her recent production ‘before7after’.
